TeamEV vehicle E-StreamAbout the site:

My name is Drew and let me welcome you to TheSmartDrive.com!

The Smart Drive is a blog and informational site created to provide information and resources about  sustainable energy vehicles.  Sustainable energy has become a hot topic across the world in modern times, and from my experience many people understand what sustainable energy, electric vehicles, and biodiesel are but don’t know what they can do with these technologies and where they can find information. This site is dedicated to providing information on sustainable energy for vehicles and other applications.  The internet is a wonderful encyclopedia of knowledge if you know where to look.  Here you will find links to resources to help you find exactly what you are looking for, or in most cases what you didn’t know you were looking for :-)

Also, this site is going to be a running account of how an electric vehicle and a straight vegetable oil (SVO) vehicle impact a normal gas car life.  Read about the experiment and project at the following links

About the author:

My name is Drew, I’m an engineer who has a passion for unique vehicle energy systems.

In 2001 I worked with some friends and converted a 1991 Volkswagen Cabriolet to run 100% on batteries.  Under the name TeamEV we entered our electric vehicle (E-Stream) in the 2001 and 2002 NESEA Tour De Sol, a road rally to numerous points in the Northeastern United States.  On the 2002 Tour De Sol TeamEV was awarded third place for “Most Efficient Light Duty Vehicle”. (For more information visit the TeamEV page here on TheSmartDrive.com)

As a student at Clarkson University I was a member of the Clarkson Solar Knights solar electric vehicle team and worked on two solar vehicles.  The first vehicle (SEVRX) was a conversion of a Honda CRX chassis, the second (Hyperion) was a custom built chassis and aerodynamic shell.  SEVRX was entered in the 2003 NESEA Tour De Sol and won first place in the “Advanced Battery Technology” category for our use of Lithium-ion batteries.

Currently I reside in Colorado and still drive the ‘91 electric cabriolet.  In 2009 I purchased a 2001 Volkswagen Golf TDI with a Greasecar straight vegetable oil conversion kit.  I updated the kit installation and plan on adding custom monitoring /  logging.  This vehicle is now my daily driver.
