I started this blog to share information with the public as to how electric vehicles and sustainable energy sources can be used an everyday life. For the past few years I have lived in apartments and used regular gasoline internal combustion engine cars, just like everyone else. In a few months I will start using the electric vehicle I converted in 2001 from a 1991 Volkswagen Cabriolet. This is the place I plan to post the results of how my lifestyle changes (both good and bad) with using an electric vehicle.
I have a very unique perspective and opportunity right now. After converting the cabriolet I drove it daily for almost two years as a normal vehicle and became quite comfortable with it. While attending school and starting my career the vehicle was driven by other people in my family, and during that time I have driven gas vehicles. Soon I will be the owner of the EV and once again I will use it as a daily driver. The unique opportunity I have is I can see directly how an electric vehicle will impact my life compared to using a gas car full time. I have records of electric consumption, gas purchases and vehicle maintenance, all of which are for a 12 month period. Lets drop an electric vehicle into a normal life and see what happens over the next 12 months!
People always have questions about EVs, it doesn’t matter who they are, everyone has questions. There are a few major questions that keep coming up no matter how many people I talk to; these questions are going to be the main focus of this blog, real answers, real data, no bull.
Questions:
- Does using electricity really cost less than gas?
- Can an electric vehicle really do all the things my gas car does in the day?
- Is an electric vehicle really cleaner or are you just moving pollution from the tailpipe to the power plant?
- Isn’t electricity dangerous?
- Aren’t PbA batteries harmful to the environment?
- Are electric vehicles slow?
- Where can I buy an electric vehicle?
- How do I make an electric vehicle?
These are very common questions for EV owners and hopefully through the life of this blog I can answer all of them.
That’s it for now, I will update soon.
